Q&A: Budding Magic star Paolo Banchero continues to grow in 2nd season - NBA.com

Sacramento’s Paolo Banchero has improved as a shooter and defender in Year 2.

For a full season, Paolo Banchero’s ups and downs with the Orlando Magic were tracked constantly, a finger on his professional pulse via the Kia Rookie Ladder here at NBA.com and on other sites that rank or monitor the league’s newcomers.

Now that he’s in his second season … what, we’re not supposed to pay attention anymore?

Fact is, Banchero is a young leader on a Magic team in ascendance. He has improved overall from his Kia Rookie of the Year production, not so noticeably in counting numbers but as a shooter and as a defender.

He is averaging 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists, while making 47.7% of his shots overall and 45.5% of his 3s. He ranks first among the Class of 2022 in scoring, field goals and 3pt%, a leader for any mythical Sophomore of the Year honor.

More important to Orlando, Banchero has responded in clutch moments. He hit a game-winner in the final seconds recently at Chicago, just three days after his 21st birthday. On Tuesday against Denver, he scored 23 points, including a 3-pointer that put the Magic in front with 1:49 left against the defending NBA champs.

Afterward, he and his teammates celebrated in the spirit of the week.

At 10-5, the Magic finds itself in a four-way tie for second place in the East, taking on conference leader Boston in a Black Friday matinee at Amway Center (2:30 ET, NBA TV). The game has the bonus of being an East Group C clash in the In-Season Tournament, with Orlando poised to leapfrog the Celtics in the group standings with a victory.

Banchero spoke with NBA.com during his team’s recent stayover in Chicago:

NBA.com: Did you make it a point to come into this season showing improvements in certain areas?

Paulo Banchero: For sure. Every season for me, from high school to college, when the offseason comes you’ve got something you want to attack and get better at. I had a list of things I wanted to improve on coming into Year 2.

Your coach, Jamahl Mosley, has cited your defense as one of those.

Definitely. I watched a lot of film over the summer. My defense was something I was frustrated with. Not every game but there’d be games and instances where I knew I could be a lot better. Guys are really big in the pro game. You can work on defense, but a lot of it is being in better shape. And understanding positioning, where you’re supposed to be on the court. That comes from watching film. Studying the game.

How far do you want to take this as a defender? All-Defense consideration some day?

Yeah, eventually. I don’t see any reason to limit myself. I have the physical tools and the smarts to be able to do it. It’s a mindset, game in, game out, committing to being as good on that end as on the offensive end. I think I’ve improved this year but I’m continuing to learn.

It’s good to hear that you targeted specific skills. Some guys say “everything” when you ask about areas to improve, then wind up only marginally better at anything.

That’s just how I’ve always been. I’ve always been versatile, being able to do a lot of things on the court. I’ve always tried to find stuff I’m not as good at and get better, whether it’s shooting or defense, whether it’s nuances, making a certain read or having a [shooting] spot on the floor, anything like that. I try to attack it and get better at it.

The day you can’t find anything, your worries are over.

[Laughs] Hopefully that day comes, right?

So why are you shooting better?

That’s always been a priority for me. Getting my shot better. More consistent. Put in a lot of work over the summer. Watched a lot of film on that too, watching some of my better shooting stretches through my rookie year and then some of my slumps, and thinking “What do I notice that’s different? What can I adjust?”

Your team is one of the league’s youngest, with 11 players who have been in the NBA for three seasons or less and nine guys aged 24 or younger. What sort of maturation do you see from last season?

I think everyone has raised the level of their seriousness and commitment. Not saying it wasn’t like that last year, but I think everyone being back and being healthy, that’s having some motivation to be in the playoffs and compete in the East. You can just feel the elevated sense of urgency. It’s been good so far and we’ve been battling. Obviously, we’ve got some stuff to clean up but I think the effort has been there every day.

What is the short-term challenge of big man Wendell Carter Jr. being out after hand surgery?

It’s a huge challenge. He brings so much for the team offensively and defensively. Cleans up a lot of stuff, covers for a lot of guys. We’ve got to try our best to pick it up and help each other. When he’s out, obviously we’re not as good. But we can still win games and be effective.

You guys lost 120-119 to Atlanta in Mexico City earlier this month. How did you like that?

That was interesting. I had never been to Mexico before. The game was super-exciting. The crowd was great, the atmosphere was awesome. But the elevation there was really tough. I didn’t know much about that until the day of the game. I mean, it’s about 4,000 feet higher than Denver, something like that [7,349 feet above sea level vs. Denver’s 5,280]. And you feel it. It kind of felt like my legs were stuck in mud through the whole game. But we still had a chance to win.

Any thoughts on the In-Season Tournament?

It’s a little different. I think there’s an intensity there for both teams. The courts are different, feel a little different as well. I wouldn’t say it was too much to make a difference [in play], but I noticed it for sure.

As reigning Rookie of the Year, what are your impressions so far of Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren?

We haven’t played either of them yet but they’ve both had some good starts. The Thunder are playing really well right now and, being in my draft class, I’ve known Chet for a while. It’s good to see him out there and having success.

He didn’t play but was around his team all last season. Do you think he benefited from that?

Oh, 100 percent. I think that’s why he started so well. He had a whole year to learn and see from afar and take it all in. Practices, games, travel. And kind of calibrate it, see how he would adjust to this first year playing. He has fit in seamlessly with that team. He was a top pick for a reason, so you knew he was going to be good, now he’s proving it.

And Wembanyama?

I saw him in Vegas and I was taken aback at first at how tall he really is. It’s a sight to see. Just some of the stuff I’ve been seeing, him doing at that size, is unique. I think he, Chet and Bol Bol are the only over-7-foot guys that I’ve seen move that way. He’s even taller than those two guys.

You’re staying three days in Chicago for two games on this trip and you’ve got two consecutive games in Boston in December. How do you deal with these road stands?

This year, this early in the season, I’ve been making more of an effort to get out with my teammates or with a friend, whoever it is, maybe my family in town. Just get out of the hotel, go to dinner, go sightseeing or a movie or go shopping. Last year I found myself just camping out in the room all day. Sometimes it gets tough when you’re not interacting with everybody. That’s something this year I want to eliminate.

My grandmother is here and one of my close friends [too]. My grandmother lives in Seattle but she has some friends who live in Chicago, so this is a game that she wanted to come see. Her being up there, Orlando is about the farthest she could go to see one of our home games. This way, she sees some of her friends and gets to see me play.

Bucks' Adrian Griffin downplays spat with Giannis Antetokounmpo - ESPN - ESPN

BOSTON -- Milwaukee superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and coach Adrian Griffin appeared to have a heated exchange when Antetokounmpo checked out of Wednesday's game midway through the third quarter, but neither had much to say about it following the Bucks' 119-116 loss to the Boston Celtics at TD Garden.

"He wanted to stay in, I wanted to give him a breather. That's all it was," Griffin said afterward. "And then I told him to stay at the table for one possession, and he got right back out there."

Antetokounmpo gave a one-word response when asked for an explanation of what took place:

"No."

The exchange happened with 5 minutes, 58 seconds left in the third quarter, after Antetokounmpo had been called for a carrying violation. As he began walking to the other end of the court, he looked at the Bucks bench and shook his head, and then appeared upset that Bobby Portis was checking in for him.

Antetokounmpo then sat on the scorer's table and had an extended discussion with Griffin, one that ended with Antetokounmpo coming back into the game at the next dead ball.

Regardless of what happened between Antetokounmpo and Griffin, what happened on the court was easy for all to see. The Celtics jumped to a 10-0 lead and never looked back, leading wire to wire. They controlled the game for the first 44 minutes before allowing Milwaukee to come roaring back, as the Celtics tend to do down the stretch in games.

Boston, which is now an NBA-best 12-3, led by as many as 21 and shot 17-for-42 from 3-point range. Jaylen Brown had his best game of the season, scoring 26 points on 10-for-16 shooting to go along with 8 assists and just 1 turnover.

"I feel like I've been doing it all season long," Brown said of his playmaking. "Definitely just another part of my game that I've been growing. This is a new year, it's a new season, and I feel like I'm playing some of my best basketball just how I'm seeing the floor. And as I get into the flow and the rhythm of things, I feel like I'll be able to continue to do that. I think when I get going, more guys playing off me, trusting that I'm going to make the right read, I think we should go to that a lot more."

Most important for Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla was that he was happy with his team's effort. He had been openly critical of his players' lack of focus in Sunday's win in Memphis and Monday's loss in Charlotte.

For the most part, that wasn't the case Wednesday night, as the Celtics immediately pounced on their biggest rival and didn't let up for most of the game. And while Milwaukee outscored Boston 37-25 in the fourth and turned what had been a comfortable lead into a one-possession game inside the final minute, Mazzulla was satisfied with the performance.

"I was definitely impressed with our mindset," Mazzulla said. "It's something we've got to fight to keep all the time. But I thought tonight we got our effort back, like real effort. Like, our grit, toughness, and I thought we got our connectivity back on the offensive end where it was like every time someone touched the ball, they were ready to make a play or make a shot.

"I thought the ball had a different type of energy tonight. So we've just got to fight for that. I know it's a long year, but the more we can do that and complement each other, I think the more dangerous we can be."

Wednesday also marked Jrue Holiday's first game against the Bucks since they traded him for Damian Lillard just before the start of the season, paving the way for the Celtics to acquire him from the Portland Trail Blazers a few days later.

Holiday struggled offensively, going 1-for-8 with just one assist and two turnovers. But he still played a crucial role, as he spent the game guarding Antetokounmpo, who finished 7-for-20 shooting en route to 21 points.

"I haven't seen that in a long time," Bucks forward Khris Middleton, who played a season-high 28 minutes, said with a smile afterward. "But you know, that's what he does. He's all over the place guarding different matchups, matchups you didn't think he would guard or should guard. But that's how talented that guy is."

While Holiday didn't speak to reporters afterward, Lillard did after playing in his first game in this long-standing rivalry. While he understood the importance of Wednesday's game, Lillard said both sides know there is plenty of basketball left to be played.

"We were fighting to make it a game, and then once we did, you usually don't get over the hump like that," said Lillard, who scored 27 points. "They played a game that they deserved to win, and we didn't."

Knicks seek $10M+ in damages from Raptors, say Silver shouldn't arbitrate - ESPN

In a court filing Monday, the New York Knicks said they're seeking more than $10 million in damages from the Toronto Raptors as part of a lawsuit alleging the theft of thousands of confidential files, and argued that NBA commissioner Adam Silver shouldn't arbitrate the dispute in part because of his close relationship with Raptors governor Larry Tanenbaum.

The Knicks' filing, which was obtained by ESPN, came in response to the Raptors' Oct. 16 motion to dismiss the Knicks' initial complaint and have Silver arbitrate the dispute.

In Monday's filing, the Knicks also argued Tanenbaum's position as the chairman of the NBA's board of governors would create a conflict of interest, as "Tanenbaum serves as Silver's boss and exercises control over and heavily influences Silver's continued employment and salary." Further, the Knicks pointed to a friendship between Silver and Tanenbaum.

"Among other things, Tanenbaum has been described as 'a close ally of Commissioner Adam Silver,'" the Knicks wrote. "Silver himself described Tanenbaum as 'not just my boss as the chairman of the board of governors, but he's very much a role model in my life.' If Silver were to preside over the instant dispute, he would be arbitrating a case for his boss and ally."

The Raptors declined comment.

Monday's filing marked the first instance of the Knicks describing potential monetary damages since they filed their initial complaint in August in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

That complaint accused former Knicks employee Ikechukwu Azotam, who worked for the Knicks from 2020 to 2023, of sending the Raptors thousands of confidential files -- including play frequency reports, a prep book for the 2022-23 season, video scouting files, opposition research and more -- after the team began recruiting him to join their organization in summer 2023.

The Knicks also accused Azotam -- who worked for the Knicks as an assistant video coordinator, then as a director of video/analytics/player development assistant -- of violating a confidentiality clause in an employment agreement and alleged that members of the Raptors "directed Azotam's actions and/or knowingly benefited from Azotam's wrongful acts."

Further, the Knicks alleged that the Raptors "conspired to use Azotam's position as a current Knicks insider to funnel proprietary information to the Raptors to help them organize, plan, and structure the new coaching and video operations staff," the lawsuit states.

Raptors coach Darko Rajaković, player development coach Noah Lewis and 10 "unknown" Raptors employees were also listed as defendants in the Knicks' lawsuit.

During Raptors media day Oct. 2, Raptors president Masai Ujiri addressed the lawsuit, saying, "There has been one time a team has sued a team in the NBA. One time. Go figure."

In an Oct. 16 filing, the Raptors called the Knicks' lawsuit "baseless" and a "public relations stunt" while also calling for Silver to arbitrate the dispute. The Raptors have made that request multiple times dating back to August.

In fact, roughly one week after the Knicks filed the initial complaint, the Raptors emailed NBA general counsel Rick Buchanan asking for Silver to assert jurisdiction over the dispute between the teams, pursuant to bylaw "d" in Article 24 of the NBA's constitution. That bylaw states: "The Commissioner shall have exclusive, full, complete, and final jurisdiction of any dispute involving two (2) or more Members of the Association."

But the Knicks -- then and even more forcefully in Monday's filing -- have objected to Silver adjudicating the dispute. In a Sept. 9 email to legal counsel representing both teams, Buchanan stated that the league would abide by further proceedings in the Southern District Court in Manhattan "for a determination of whether this dispute should be adjudicated in federal court or before [Silver]."

In another email Sept. 19, Buchanan repeated the league's stance to legal representatives from both teams.

In their filing Monday that opposed any arbitration by Silver in the matter, the Knicks said there are no provisions in the NBA constitution that address the theft of intellectual property or the protection of a team's intellectual property.

"Contrary to Defendants' claims, this is not a dispute about basketball operations," the Knicks wrote. "There is no nexus between the claims and the NBA Constitution -- it is a dispute about the theft of trade secrets by a disloyal employee, a scenario not contemplated by the NBA Constitution. Trade secret misappropriation, breaches of contract, and tort claims are the types of issues routinely appearing before federal judges. We are unaware of the NBA Commissioner ever having handled something similar. As a matter of contract formation, the arbitration provision cannot be applied to Plaintiff's claims."

The Knicks pointed to the limits on Silver's power for monetary penalties under Article 24 of the NBA's constitution, which states that the commissioner cannot issue a penalty of more than $10 million. Further, the Knicks pointed out the league's constitution does not authorize Silver to award legal fees in disputes between two teams.

"As the Knicks intend to prove at trial, damages exceed $10 million," the Knicks said in Monday's filing, adding that they also intend to seek attorneys' fees.

An MSG spokesperson issued the following statement to ESPN on Monday: "We were the victim of a theft of proprietary and confidential files, which is a clear violation of criminal and civil law, and we remain confident that the Court will decide in our favor in this matter."

Watch Golden State Warriors vs. Oklahoma City Thunder: How to live stream, TV channel, start time for Saturday's NBA game - CBS Sports

3rd Quarter Report

Fortunes may be turning around for the Warriors after losing five in a row. It's still anybody's game after three quarters, but they are currently ahead of the Thunder 87-85.

With four games having already gone down to the wire, it's been a real nail-biter of a season for the Warriors, and they're locked in yet another close battle with the Thunder. Maybe the Warriors will pull away, but we predict a narrow margin.

Who's Playing

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Golden State Warriors

Current Records: Oklahoma City 8-4, Golden State 6-7

How To Watch

What to Know

The Thunder are 2-8 against the Warriors since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Oklahoma City Thunder will head out on the road to face off against the Golden State Warriors at 8:30 p.m. ET at Chase Center. The Warriors are crawling into this game hobbled by five consecutive losses, while the Thunder will bounce in with three consecutive wins.

Even though the Thunder have not done well against the Warriors recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Oklahoma City strolled past Golden State with points to spare, taking the game 128-109. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 25.3% better than the opposition, as the Thunder's was.

The Thunder can attribute much of their success to Isaiah Joe, who made all 7 shots he took from beyond the arc racking up 23 points and 0 assists.

Oklahoma City is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Golden State, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

Looking ahead, the Thunder are the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 4.5 points. They might be worth a quick bet since they've covered the spread the last three times they've played.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: The Thunder have themselves a killer kicker this season, having made 49.4% of their shots per game (they're ranked third in field goal percentage per game overall). It's a different story for the Warriors , though, as they've only made 44.4% of theirs this season. Given the Thunder's sizeable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.

Odds

Oklahoma City is a 4.5-point favorite against Golden State, according to the latest NBA odds.

David Purdum's Action Report

  • The No. 12 Oregon State Beavers were a consensus 2-point favorite over the No. 5 Washington Huskies as of Thursday. If the line holds, it would mark the first game this season that a top-5 team would be an underdog. The Beavers have covered the spread in 12 of their last 13 games as a home favorite. At sportsbook PointsBet (Fanatics), Oregon State had attracted more money on the point spread than any other college football team this week.

  • The total on the Georgia State Panthers-No. 15 LSU Tigers game grew from an opening 66.5 to 72.5 total as of Thursday at Circa Sports. Nine of LSU's 10 games have eclipsed the total this season, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

  • The total on the Illinois Fighting Illini-No. 16 Iowa Hawkeyes game was sitting at a consensus 30.5 as of Thursday. It's the eighth straight Iowa game with a total under 40, the longest such streak of any team since 2000.

Seth Walder's biggest edges from ESPN Analytics

  • No. 6 Oregon Ducks (-23.5) at Arizona State Sun Devils: The Ducks rank sixth in the rankings, but on a play-by-play level, this team has been the second-most efficient squad in the nation after adjusting for quality of opponent and garbage time. That's a huge leap from Arizona State, which ranks 89th in the same metric. That's why FPI puts this number at 28.8, well clear of the spread.

  • No.2 Ohio State Buckeyes to reach the College Football Playoff (+150): The Buckeyes have a 41% chance to win their next two games, per FPI. If their playoff hopes hinged exclusively on that, that would make this essentially a fair price -- but without value. Except that it's not impossible that Ohio State loses to the Michigan Wolverines and ends up an 11-1 playoff team. Chaos can happen elsewhere, and while that's not guaranteed, it's possible. Ultimately, we're getting plus money on a bet the Allstate Playoff Predictor says has a 67% chance to happen.

Joe Fortenbaugh's Confidence Picks

  • Michigan State Spartans (+3.5) at Indiana Hoosiers: Woof. This is a "hold your nose special," plain and simple. But here's the thing: As bad as Michigan State has been this season, should Sparty really be a 4-point 'dog against a team like Indiana? The Hoosiers are off a gut-punch overtime loss to Illinois and, looking back, have closed as a favorite in just seven of their last 32 games. And of those seven matchups as a favorite, Indiana has covered the number only two times. Sparty boasts the better defense and should be able to run the ball here, so give me the points.

  • Old Dominion Monarchs (+6) 6 at Georgia Southern Eagles: This is a good buy-low spot on the Monarchs following last week's blowout loss at Liberty. But go inside the numbers and you'll see that Old Dominion is 6-4 against the number this year, with tight losses against good competition like James Madison (lost by 3 points), Wake Forest (lost by 3 points), Coastal Carolina (lost by 4 points) and Marshall (lost by 6 points). Georgia Southern has failed to cover the number in four of its last five outings and actually owns the same yards per play differential (-.4) as Old Dominion, which isn't a good thing when playing a more favorable schedule.

  • No. 11 Oregon State (-2.5) vs. No. 5 Washington: Who's interested in some playoff chaos? Undefeated, fifth-ranked Washington actually opened as the favorite here, but the money has been flowing throughout the week to an Oregon State team that performs in vastly superior fashion when playing at home (5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS) than it does on the road (3-2 SU, 2-3 ATS). Additionally, check out the turnover differential posted by these two programs to date, as Oregon State currently sits +10 (T-6 in NCAA) while the Huskies rank T-80 at -1. If I'm right, next week's playoff rankings will be VERY interesting.

How should fantasy managers handle the Dolphins RBs in Week 11?

The Fantasy Focus crew analyzes what fantasy managers should do with Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane if the latter returns to the field.

Stephania Bell's injury update

  • De'Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins: The speedy back has missed the last four games with a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve, but he benefited from an additional week of recovery with the Week 10 bye. Coach Mike McDaniels commented this week about it being a "sprain-type of injury." McDaniels went on to say they could have returned Achane sooner in a brace if they really had to minimize his time on the field. "We didn't really envision him being one that would really flourish with a brace, so we took the time to make sure that we can get structurally completely strong." Given Achane's agility and quickness, his need to cut sharply and accelerate, this will prove to be the wiser move for both Achane's ability to perform at a high level upon return and, hopefully, stay healthy. McDaniel said they will take it day by day as Achane returns to practice, but he said on Monday that Achane was "untackleable." He said he feels good about where they are with him. If he continues down this path through the rest of the week, it certainly sounds as if Achane will take the field Sunday.

Matt Bowen's matchups to exploit

  • Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud vs. the Arizona Cardinals' zone coverages: Stroud holds a QBR of 75.2, with 25 explosive play throws (completions of 20 or more yards), versus zone coverage this season. He'll see a mix of split-safety zone and Cover 3 this Sunday against the Cardinals. We should expect Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik to set up Stroud with concepts that create open zone voids at the second and third level of the field.

  • New York Jets RB Breece Hall vs. the Buffalo Bills' run defense: Hall has seen 12 or more carries in five straight games, and he gets a matchup versus a Bills defense allowing an average of 4.6 yards per rush. Lean on outside zone run schemes here with Hall, who rushed for 127 yards against Buffalo back in Week 1.

  • For more breakdowns, check out Matt Bowen's Film Room.

Mike Clay's Eliminator Challenge advice

  • Washington Commanders (vs. New York Giants): The Commanders were sellers at the trade deadline, but this is still a 4-6 club in the wild-card race in the NFC, so they have plenty of incentive to beat the lowly Giants at home this week. Washington has a 74% win probability, which is easily its highest the rest of the season. It's also the sixth highest in the league this week, but we've already utilized the Dallas Cowboys (88%), Buffalo Bills (83%) and Miami Dolphins (81%), and we will have better opportunities to use the San Francisco 49ers (77%) and perhaps the Houston Texans (75%). Washington should get the job done easily against undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito and the struggling Giants.

  • Follow Clay's Eliminator Challenge advice all season long and find other tips for Week 11 here.

Al Zeidenfeld's DFS plays

  • Kyler Murray ($6,100) made his return to the field last week and his double stacks profile to be one of the best value tournament plays in combination this week with so many of his pass-catchers carrying super-low price tags. Marquise Brown ($5,300), Rondale Moore ($3,300) and Trey McBride ($4,400) offer avenues and combinations to correlate through and still have plenty of money to build a secondary stack around one of the premium wide receivers with high team totals, such as Tyreek Hill ($9,300) or Amon-Ra St. Brown ($8,800). Should be a very fun slate for tournament lineup builds.

  • Giants NT Dexter Lawrence II over 3.5 tackles + assists (-122): My model forecasts 4.4 tackles + assists for Lawrence, and a large part of that is the expected game flow in this game. The Giants are 9.5-point underdogs against the Commanders, and that means Washington -- typically a very pass-heavy team -- will probably be more run-heavy than usual. That plays into Lawrence's over.

  • Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love over 19.5 completions (-114): It feels dangerous to take a completions over with the worst QB in the league in completion percentage and completion percentage over expectation from NFL Next Gen Stats. But Love has been better in recent weeks in those categories, and the Packers are more likely to be behind -- and thus needing to pass -- as an underdog.

David Purdum's Action Report

  • The line on the Pittsburgh Steelers-Cleveland Browns game dropped 3 points this week on the news that Cleveland QB DeShaun Watson would undergo shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the season. Rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is expected to start for the Browns. Cleveland had been a 4-point favorite, before the Watson news. The line was sitting at Cleveland -1 as of Thursday. The total on the game also dropped significantly and was down to a consensus 33 as of Thursday, the second-lowest total of any game over the last decade, according to ESPN Stats and Information.

  • Games that had attracted the most-lopsided action by money wagered as of Thursday at DraftKings: Raiders at Dolphins (-13.5) -- 84% of money wagered on Miami; Cowboys (-10.5) at Carolina Panthers -- 78% of money wagered on Dallas; Buccaneers at 49ers (-12) -- 75% of money wagered on San Francisco.

  • John Murray, executive director at the SuperBook, told ESPN that he had seen action from sharp bettors this week on the Dolphins, Steelers and Packers.

  • Money has started to pile up on the Texans to win the AFC. "They are now our second-biggest liability to win the AFC," Tom Gable, sportsbook director at The Borgata, said. "[They're] down to 28-1."

Anita Marks' NFL confidence pool picks

  • Detroit Lions OVER 28.5 total points: Detroit's offense is averaging 30 points per game over the last four weeks. David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs are a great 1-2 punch in the ground game, and Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown should take advantage of a Bears defense allowing the second-most passing TDs.

  • Steelers (+1) at Browns: How are the Steelers NOT favored here!?! They will face a rookie QB in Thompson-Robinson, who is making his second career start. Pittsburgh is 25-4 straight up against rookie QBs under Mike Tomlin, and the Steelers are 5-0 SU and against the spread vs. the Browns at home in the regular season the last five seasons. T.J. Watt will feast!

Tyler Fulghum's Pigskin Pick'em plays

This is why we love the NFL. The league is being turned on its head in the critical month of November. The Minnesota Vikings can't stop winning, even without Kirk Cousins. What a story Josh Dobbs has become this year. And Thursday night's matchup with the Baltimore Ravens seems like a must-win for the Cincinnati Bengals to get their playoff chances off life support. Oh, hello San Francisco. That bye seemed to serve you well. The 49ers are back BACK after the three-game losing streak. Love this game. Love this week. Good luck in Week 11 of Pigskin Pick'em!
