DRX's miracle run at League of Legends Worlds 2022 continues as underdogs demolish Gen.G to book Grand Finals clash with T1 - Sportskeeda

On October 30, 2022, DRX pulled off an upset at League of Legends Worlds 2022 that nobody in the entire League of Legends community could have predicted. The underdogs from the LCK ended up defeating the champions from that region, Gen.G, 3-1 in the second semi-final game to book a Grand Finals ticket for Worlds 2022.

This was a result that was bound to blow everyone's minds, as many did not even expect DRX to make it past the Group Stages. In fact, this is a team that analysts believed would fall to the likes of Rogue or Top Esports.

However, DRX not only defeated those teams but cruised through the competition with ease, something that was unlikely to happen based on the analysis from the top personalities in the League of Legends community.

DRX's Zeka has been instrumental in the team's success so far at League of Legends Worlds 2022

DRX is a team that most analysts expected to see knocked out very early. The team barely made it into League of Legends Worlds 2022 and had a reputation of being inconsistent.

However, contrary to all expectations, DRX had a stellar performance and managed to thwart all the challenges thrown their way. Even though DRX's journey has been a collective effort, Zeka is the player who deserves the most credit.

He is the focal point of DRX and has been the best midlaner so far in the tournament. Zeka's explosive performances have helped DRX grab wins even in situations that looked dire.

In fact, while Deft has always been the player in DRX that everyone looks up to, Zeka is the one who has been stepping up during crucial scenarios. This has led to the team generating a momentum that has carried them all the way to the Grand Finals.

DRX defeating Gen.G is more than just a statement, as the latter crushed the former in the LCK. In fact, when DRX and Gen.G ended up getting matched against each other, most people thought it would be a 3-0 for the latter.

However, DRX ended up coming out on top with a 3-1 scoreline that clearly shows how much the team has improved over the past few weeks. It is safe to say at this point that DRX's victories against Top Esports and EDG were not simple flukes but a display of skill.

In any case, DRX will now have a week's worth of practice before meeting T1 in the Grand Finals. This will be a historic match, regardless of who the winner is.

If DRX wins, then it will be a miracle run at the same level as OG, who won Dota 2's The International back in 2018 after overcoming all odds. Apart from that, DRX's victory will mean that Deft finally gets his hands on the World Championship, a title that has eluded him for several years.

If T1 wins, then it will be a record fourth title for not just the organization but Faker as well. Hence, the Grand Finals at League of Legends Worlds 2022 is a match that fans will not want to miss.

Valve announces new Dota 2 hero Muerta at TI11 - ONE Esports

Right in time for Halloween.

Dota 2’s hero roster is welcoming a new addition early next year.

After the all-star match on the final day of The International 2022, Valve introduced Muerta, a new Dota 2 hero that looks inspired by popular Latin American holiday called DĂa de los Muertos.

She is the second character to be added to the game’s cast of heroes this year, following Primal Beast, who was released on February 23, 2022.

Muerta will be Valve’s new Dota 2 hero

Credit: Valve/Wykrhm Reddy

The new hero was introduced to the live and online audience in TI11 through a short 50-second teaser video.

Muerta, translated from Spanish to English, means dead woman. Her design is taken straight out of the Day of the Dead holiday that originated in Mexico, where families and friends gather to pay respects to those who’ve passed away.

People honor their deceased with many different decorated skulls and Aztec marigold flowers, which can be seen throughout Muerta’s motif.

At first glance, the hero sounds very disgruntled with the living and the dead. It seems like the character will be an assassin-type hero who uses a flintlock pistol that glows in the moonlight.

Muetra showcased her undead power at the end of the trailer, switching to a different form with ghosts surrounding her.

Information on the new character remains scarce, but make sure to follow ONE Esports on Facebook and Twitter for more news on the upcoming Dota 2 hero.

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's men's and women's fencing teams open their regular season this weekend with the Temple Open, joining 21 varsity and three club teams from around the country.

Previewing Penn
In women's epee, Chloe Daniel and Jessica Liang both return after surpassing 100 career bout wins last season, claiming first team and second team All-Ivy honors, respectively.

Sabrina Cho, Grace Hao, and Justina Lam all return for the foilists after each picking up 30 bout wins. Hao enters this season 13 bout victories shy of 100 for her career.

In women's sabre, Amber White returns from a first team All-Ivy season that included victories in two-thirds of her bouts, picking up 40 wins in all. Vivian Lu also returns following a 32-15 campaign that included an 11-7 performance at the Ivy Round-Robins.

On the men's side, three graduated epeeists leave the group with five underclassmen returners, all with 25 career wins or fewer. Isaac Herbst leads the group with 25 wins, followed closely by Arthur Andreev and Hugh Milam with 21 wins each.

In foil, Canadian Olympian Blake Broszus won 54 bouts last season in his first season of collegiate competition, the most of any Penn fencer, male or female, earning second team All-Ivy recognition. Emerson Blutt won 23 bouts and enters this season 25 victories shy of 100 for his career.

With nearly 100 combined bout victories between them, senior sabreists Raymond Zhao and Enzo Bergamo will lead three fellow returners following the graduation of Xiteng Lin (125 career bout victories).

Seven male newcomers and two female newcomers join the returning Quakers from last season, looking to make an immediate impact on the program.

What's in Store
Penn will be joined at Temple by the men's and women's teams from Boston College, Bryn Mawr, Columbia, Drexel, Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Navy, North Carolina, Northwestern, NYU, Penn State, Princeton, Rowan, Rutgers, and Swarthmore, as well as the men's team from Cornell. The club teams from Penn State, Temple and North Carolina will also be competing.

The event should provide a formidable challenge for the Quakers, with six of the Top 20 men's and women's teams from last season's final United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) rankings coming to Philly, including three of the top five women's teams and five of the top 10 men's squads.

Jelena Cvijovic out to be perfect complement to Mylene Paat - Tiebreaker Times

Jelena Cvijovic may not be the explosive scorer that one expects from an import in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference but she gets the job done.

The 6-foot-1 outside spiker out of Montenegro has led Chery Tiggo to an immaculate 5-0 win-loss card and the first ticket holder in the round-robin semifinals.

This despite not being heavily relied on in their attacks, ranking only seventh out of the nine reinforcements in points scored.

Leading the pack is Elena Samoilenko of PLDT followed by Prisilla Rivera (Akari), Odina Aliyeva (Choco Mucho), Yeliz Basa (Creamline), Lindsey Vander Weide (Petro Gazz), and Lindsay Stalzer (F2 Logistics) in that order.

“I am happy and I feel good in this team. I don’t want to think about scoring, about points. I don’t want to be selfish or to put some pressure on myself,” said the 30-year-old import who had stints in Serbia, Greece, Romania, and Turkey.

What she might lack in scoring firepower, Cvijovic compensates in her floor defense, tallying 19 excellent receptions to go with her 19 points in the Crossovers five-setter win over United Auctioneers Inc-Army for the semis berth on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

And for Chery Tiggo head coach Clarence Esteban, defense is what he really asks for from his reinforcement.2022-PVL-Reinforced-Conference-Chery-Tiggo-vs-Army-Jelena-Cvijovic-Tiggo Jelena Cvijovic out to be perfect complement to Mylene Paat News PVL Volleyball - philippine sports news

“Actually yun naman talaga yung hinahanap ko kay Jelena kasi before she played libero for the national team,” mentioned Esteban, referring to two games where Cvijovic suited up as libero due to team issues.

“Pero yun nga every time sinasabi ko sa kanya yun I need your defense, I need your receive. At the start pa lang kitang kita naman namin na magaling ‘yung passing niya saka ‘yung digging niya.”

Anyway, scoring is not much of a problem for the Crossovers who have the top three local scorers in the league as of Thursday.

Mylene Paat has already tallied 102 points, while Cza Carandang has the same output as Cvijovic at 63. EJ Laure follows with 60 points already in five outings.PVL-Reinforced-2022-Choco-Mucho-vs.-Chery-Tiggo-Mylene-Paat-9702 Jelena Cvijovic out to be perfect complement to Mylene Paat News PVL Volleyball - philippine sports news

“She’s very good captain and leader. She’s pushing a lot so it’s really good to play with her and other players because I think everybody is [contributing always],” said Cvijovic.

Optimistic Nets hit road to face Ja Morant, Grizzlies - CBS Sports

The early returns have been promising for Ben Simmons and the Brooklyn Nets, who head out on the road for the first time this season to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.

After dropping their season opener to the New Orleans Pelicans, the Nets bounced back with a 109-105 win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday.

In just his second game since June 2021, Simmons flashed the skills that made him a three-time All-Star and two-time all-defensive player.

After struggling against New Orleans, Simmons finished with six points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in 32 minutes against Toronto. The 6-foot-10 point guard also blocked two shots.

"A step up for Ben," Brooklyn coach Steve Nash said. "From the jump he was more aggressive. He got in the paint (and) every time he gets in the paint he causes problems. He's starting to show the player he can be, and I think he's still got a ways to go. Really proud of him."

Brooklyn has lost its last six meetings against Memphis, which began the season with two straight wins before trailing by 25 points in the first quarter of a 137-96 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday.

"I think a great team played great, and we didn't play great," Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said.

Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant was held to 20 points against Dallas after setting a franchise record for points through the first two games of the season with 83.

Desmond Bane scored 14 points against the Mavericks and rookie David Roddy added 12 points off the bench for the Grizzlies, who were playing their third game in four nights.

Memphis has been short-handed without Jaren Jackson Jr. (right foot surgery), Dillon Brooks (left thigh soreness) and Ziaire Williams (right knee soreness).

Brooks could make his season debut on Monday, and Williams likely will return this week. Second-year forward Santi Aldama has moved into the starting lineup in place of Jackson, who is expected to be out until December.

The 6-foot-11 Aldama is averaging 11.3 points and 8.7 rebounds through the first three games.

"I'm seeing a lot of great things on the defensive side with his activity; offensively with his cutting, shot-making ability, playmaking ability," Jenkins said.

Memphis will need another solid outing from Aldama to help defend the Nets' potent trio of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Simmons.

Brooklyn received a spark on Friday when guard Joe Harris returned to action for the first time since last November.

Harris played 18 minutes in his season debut and instantly created more spacing for the Nets as a career 43.9-percent shooter from 3-point range.

"It was just great to see him out there," Nash said. "He's an important player for us. The quicker we can get him back up to his best is important for our group. You know the characteristics he brings as a teammate, that elite shooting, the fight, the physicality he plays with is so important. Getting him out there was really important, let alone giving us depth and ability."

Brooklyn could also have guard Seth Curry back in the rotation soon. Curry, who is coming off ankle surgery, has been practicing with the team and could return later this week.

Dana White whiffs at chance to head off more conflict between Khamzat Chimaev and Team Khabib - Bloody Elbow

Khamzat Chimaev has seen his stock rise in the UFC off the back of dominating, and brutal, performances inside the cage. Now on path for a UFC title shot, it seems like ‘Borz’ is as interested in crafting a ‘Notorious’ reputation outside of the cage as he is inside of it.

Just like we saw with Conor McGregor a half-decade ago, as Chimaev’s profile has risen in the sport so have the number of incidents and altercations involving him.

Chimaev was cited as the cause for the chaotic brawl at the UFC 279 press conference that forced UFC President Dana White to cancel the event. And now, at last night’s UFC 280, video footage has emerged of security needing to restrain Chimaev after an apparent scuffle between him and Abubakar Nurmagomedov (cousin to Khabib Nurmagomedov).

Nurmagomedov competed at UFC 280, beating Gadzhi Omaregadzhiev. The incident seemed to take place after that fight. He and Chimaev have history.

In 2021 when Chimaev was bro-ing it up with Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov (one of many such occasions), Chimaev said on an Instagram Live that he would ‘smash’ Khabib Nurmagomedov.

That lead to a response from Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who called out Chimaev’s flip-flopping on life in his homeland.

“I see you quickly changed your shoes,” wrote Nurmagomedov. “After moving to Sweden and writing a complaint against your own Chechen Republic that you are being infringed upon, you received documents for a good life in Sweden. But now, having gained fame, you, I see, have changed. Now you have come back and live in Chechnya, and everything is fine with you. I’m happy for you. Don’t lose this comfort zone.”

“Not long ago in America, you sat at the same table with us and ate, trained in the same gym, went to the Mosque together and called us brothers,” continued Nurmagomedov. “And now you write that you will tear someone up. Yes, I agree, everyone has the right to express their opinion. But be careful with your statements.”

More recently Khabib Nurmagomedov also criticized Chimaev, blaming Chimaev’s botched weigh-in at UFC 279 (which lead to a last minute opponent change for half the main card) on him not having “good, strong people” around him and specifically not having Muslims in his camp (which is not true).

UFC President Dana White was asked his thoughts on the Chimaev vs. Nurmagomedov scuffle (surely a sign of things to come, if not managed properly). His response left a lot to be desired.

“What do I even say about that?” White said (ht MMA Fighting). “It happens, especially with [Khamzat]. It happens.”

So “is normal”, basically. Sounds very similar to how White addressed controversies surrounding both Conor McGregor and Jon Jones in the past — two men whose outside the cage behaviour now overshadows anything they’ve accomplished in the sport.

Obviously, White could be addressing the situation differently behind-the-scenes, but the public message very much seems to be “fighters gonna fight”.

The only other comment White offered on the scuffle was one intended to shirk any responsibility for Chimaev having such close access to Nurmagomedov on fight night.

“He was sitting on our side. I didn’t even know Khamzat was coming tonight. He was invited here by Abu Dhabi. So the seats behind me here in Abu Dhabi are owned by Abu Dhabi.”

Chimaev fought for the UFC last month, improving his pro record to 12-0. Since joining the promotion in 2020, White has touted the Chechen-born Swede as a future champion and star of the company.

"This is pretty inexcusable": Valve's woes continue as DOTA 2 community furious over missing soundproof booths, likely leading to unfair advantage - Sportskeeda

The lack of soundproof booths on the main stage of this year's DOTA 2 The International (TI) raised eyebrows even before the first match began on day 1 of the playoffs. By the time all the matches were over, the community was furious with the issue and the likely unfair advantage it created for those playing on stage.

Soundproof booths have been a constant feature in TI over the years. These boxes allow players to compete without being bothered by casters shouting or the thunderous roars of DOTA 2 fans present at the venue. While the latter can boost morale, the former can lead to unfair advantages for those players who can understand what they are saying.

This is reportedly what is happening at this year's TI, with some players pointing out that they could hear commentators' words and make adjustments to their gameplay based on that knowledge. This is a significant oversight on the part of Valve, and DOTA 2 fans are expectedly outraged by the state of their favorite esports tournament.

DOTA 2 community furious with the absence of soundproof booths at TI 2022

Upon seeing the lack of soundproof booths on the main stage for the participants and how close the crowd sat to them, the community feared that cheers, chants or roars from fans could easily ruin a team's strategy. As noted by a Reddit user, any team can easily learn about a sneaky Roshan attempt from the opposite side based on how the crowd responds.

Their worst fears actually came true when Gaimin Gladiator's Anton "dyrachyo" Shkredov mentioned that the players were able to hear what the casters were saying during the match. In a post-match interview, dyrachyo mentioned that they could make out whatever the commentators were saying about smokes and runes.

dyrachyo in a post-match interview:

“[Since there are no boots,] it's really awkward. You can hear absolutely everything the casters say. Any smoke or rune. Seleri says: "They have DD." He also says: "They are in smoke."

He further stated that Seleri, another Gaimin Gladiators player, called out during the match that "they have DD (double damage rune)" and "they are in smoke." These are critical lapses on the part of the tournament organizers as it creates an unfair advantage for players who can make out what the English casters are saying.

A smoke play or a power rune can be integral to the next fight that a team takes and dyrachyo's statement is a major cause for concern. It was also further mentioned by BurNIng, the co-founder of Team Aster, that his team had reported the soundproofing problem to PGL, but received no feedback regarding the matter.

The same issue could have been resolved with better sound-proofing earphones. TI 2022 has been plagued with one production issue after another ever since the event kicked off with the Group Stage. Fans have been livid with how subpar the overall quality of this year's event feels, especially considering that DOTA 2's TI is one of the biggest esports events in the world.

While many hoped that things would turn out for the better when the main event began, it looks like there are still glaring issues present. The soundproof booths have been a DOTA 2 TI staple over the years and for good reason. It remains to be seen if the organizers will reintroduce them anytime soon.

“I remember that at the Stockholm Major it all was distorted, all the words and sounds. Nothing was clear. I don’t know if the headphones are good here, but you can hear everything.”2/2#TI11

RSG feels stronger than ever in bid to retain MPL Philippines crown - GMA News Online

RSG Philippines looked shaky early in the MPL Philippines Season 10, suffering from two losses via sweep in their first three games, but a different team showed up in the postseason that swept Onic Philippines in the race to the final four.

Despite a 0-4 record in the regular season against the Hedgehogs, Head Coach Brian "Panda" Lim was not surprised with the sweep given the team's current form.

"We were not surprised because honestly our performance right now is stronger than our MPL Season 9 grand finals tsaka MSC performance," he said.

"We became stronger and as long as we don't make the same mistakes we did in the regular season kahit sino kalaban namin dito sa playoffs, we can win."

True to his word, RSG showed their lethal form against Onic, reminiscent of their grand finals performance in the MSC where they swept Indonesian powerhouse RRQ Hoshi.

They showed poise and composure in the crucial Game 3 encounter where Onic managed to lord over the early game before the defending champions mounted a comeback in the midgame to the late game.

The secret to their strength? It's actually quite simple but crucial.

"Two words lang para bumalik 'yung lakas namin tsaka mas mahigitan 'yung last season at MSC which is Focus and Discipline," said Coach Karl "Gie" Barrientos.

RSG will next face Echo in the upper bracket on Friday, a team they swept during the regular season.

BOOM Esports eliminates reigning DOTA 2 TI champions in a shock defeat on Day 1 of playoffs - Sportskeeda

In a shocking turn of events, Team Spirit, the reigning DOTA 2 TI champions, has been knocked out of this year's tournament on the very first day of the playoffs. The Russian outfit faced off against BOOM Esports in round one of the lower bracket and were unable to overcome the Southeast Asian roster. This guarantees that a new champion will be crowned at The International 11.

The first day of the playoffs at DOTA 2 The International 11 has already seen a number of surprises in the upper bracket, with EG being handed a clean defeat after a stellar Group Stage run and the Chinese powerhouse PSG.LGD also being 2-0'd by Team Secret. But the shocking exit of the reigning champions so early on in the tournament is surely not something that many expected.

BOOM Esports knocks Team Spirit out of DOTA 2 The International 11

After an eventful 2022 where the team won the Arlington Major, Team Spirit struggled in the Group Stage of TI 11, finishing sixth with a score of 1-7-1. On the other hand, BOOM Esports beat all the odds by escaping elimination by beating Soniqs and BetBoom in the tiebreakers.

BOOM vs Spirit .. BO1 ... The story lines make themselves. We're on the best script guys. Gonna be spicy.

BOOM vs Spirit .. BO1 ... The story lines make themselves. We're on the best script guys. Gonna be spicy.

The two teams locked horns in the lower bracket over a best-of-one in the lower bracket round 1 match. Team Spirit opted for a Nyx, Leshrac, Lich, Lifestealer, and Outworld Destroyer line-up while the the Southeast Asian team picked Marci, Shadow Fiend, Mars, Disruptor, and Beastmaster, which eventually resulted in an upset.

Team Spirit began the match on a good note by securing first blood, but BOOM struck back with a couple of kills. Overall control of the match was see-sawed for some time, with both teams vying to come up on top. Team Spirit showed an uncharacteristic lack of team chemistry as BOOM constantly pressured Outworld Destroyer.

Irrespective of Leshrac and Lifestealer trying their best on Team Spirit, Yopaj had an excellent showing on Mars and the SEA team secured a victory that many did not see coming. As explained in the post-match interview, BOOM played to their strengths without being too worried, which seems to have paid dividends.

BOOM Esports will meet PSG.LGD in another David vs Goliath match tomorrow in the lower bracket round 2. This time around, it will be a best-of-3 series. Back after the Group Stage ended, DOTA 2 fans quickly mentioned on Twitter that BOOM Esports had a 1.42% chance of qualifying for the playoffs and they prevailed.

Today we did the unthinkable, we sent the reigning TI champions home.

No giant is too big, and no mountain is too high.

Job’s not done though - we focus for tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for the support!

Now that they have taken down the reigning champions, they will be setting their eyes on their next opponent. It remains to be seen how far their fairytale continues at DOTA 2 TI 11. There is still a long road ahead of them if they want to make history and lift the Aegis of Champions.

Malunes out, So shocks with voluntary exit - Manila Bulletin

Episode five of “Globe Presents ONE Warrior Series Philippines” further surprised viewers.

Two more warriors had to leave the show in Benguet City after three gruelling Circle Elimination showdowns.

In the end, Marvin Malunes of Team Passion and Joevincent So of Team Gravity had to go home – but the most surprising thing was that So left on his own accord.

Joevincent So Leaves Voluntarily

The first Circle Elimination sparring showdown of the night happened between So and Malunes, and So proved that he belonged in the competition as he avoided Malunes’ strikes with slick counters.

In fact, he slipped one of Malunes’ advances and countered with a punishing right hook that damaged the Team Passion fighter, forcing referee Jaybe Ban-Eg to stop the match.

Being finished in that way assured viewers that Malunes would be given the boot at the end of the episode. However, nobody expected So to voluntary leave the show after feeling bad over what happened during the sparring session.

“For the past few weeks, I’ve been with Team Gravity and Team Passion and I treated them as my family, and hurting one of my family has never been okay for me. I’d like to voluntarily eliminate myself in ‘ONE Warrior Series Philippines,’” he said.

“Hopefully, you’ll understand my decision. I’ve grown fond of all of them.”

RJ Ortega Lives To Fight Another Day, Genil Francisco Proves Age Is Just A Number

In the other pairing, 37-year-old Genil Francisco delivered a classic performance as he dominated RJ Ortega on the ground to prove that while he’s up there in age he can still roll with the young guns.

Francisco’s performance was so impressive that he was immediately excluded from the eliminations, and before So’s voluntary exit, Ortega was on his way to being eliminated.

Luckily for Ortega, though, he was given another chance as he was chosen to stay on after much deliberation from the coaches.

“They were supposed to eliminate me, but now that I’m given a second chance, my confidence is immediately restored,” he said.

With second game done, Nicholson vows to 'push through fatigue' moving forward - Tiebreaker Times

Andrew Nicholson felt satisfied with the way he performed that ultimately helped Bay Area return to its winning ways in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The former NBA cager played a big role in the Dragons’ 113-87 obliteration of San Miguel on Sunday. He finished with 39 points and 12 rebounds in a performance that also saw him tally two assists, two steals, and a block.

It was a much better outing than in his debut exactly a week ago, which saw him slow down in the second half of their 93-111 loss to Barangay Ginebra.

There, Nicholson fired 26 points in the first half in a solid display of what he can bring to the table in his first rodeo as the substitute for Myles Powell. But he could not sustain the rhythm as he only scored two in the last 24 minutes.

He did almost the same against the Beermen by scoring 25 in the game’s first two quarters. But he then proved that he can keep going, finishing with nearly 40 markers in the 37 minutes and 43 seconds he saw action.

Nicholson felt pleased with how the guest team as a whole responded to that massive beatdown at the hands of the crowd darlings.

“I think we had a great attitude after the game,” he said shortly after the match at the SMART Araneta Coliseum. “In terms of practice, we had a great week of practice. It was more competitive.

“We stuck together, that’s the most important thing. We kind of translated what we did in practice into the game. That’s what we did today. Our defense was better, the ball was moving and we just trusted each other.”

Moving forward, the 32-year-old forward vowed to ‘push through fatigue’ in an aim to help further the Dragons, who improved to 5-1 in the standings.

“This is my second game. I’m gonna continue to push through fatigue. I think I did a decent job today and just continue doing that moving forward,” he said.

Coach JackieWind believes in GAM Esports here at Worlds 2022 - ONE Esports

Also, what he thinks of Rogue.

After two years of missing out on major Riot Games events, Vietnam is finally back in the international spotlight at the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds 2022) Group Stage.

With Saigon Buffalo eliminated from World contention in the Play-Ins, it’s now on GAM Esports to show what peak Vietnam Championship Series (VCS) is all about.

GAM was off to a bad start after losing all their games during the first half of the Group Stage. The team was drawn into Group C, along with Top Esports, Rogue, and DRX.

Top laner Tráș§n “Kiaya” Duy Sang and jungler Đỗ “Levi” Duy KhĂĄnh admitted that they were having some trouble adjusting to the North American time zone, which may have affected their performance during the second stage of the annual tournament.

“The players made a lot of communication mistakes and weren’t at their best,” coach Phan “JackieWind” Huy Phong shared with ONE Esports after their game against DRX on the fourth day of Groups.

“Coming to Worlds, we are trying our best to achieve great results. It is difficult to make promises on which matches we will win, but GAM is still working hard every day.”

GAM Esports at Worlds 2022 — the good and the bad, according to coach JackieWind

Coach JackieWind further explained the struggles that the team is facing in the competition.

“The whole team is not communicating well, perhaps each member is under psychological pressure and not in their best form,” he said. “There were a lot of mistakes during the early game that led us to difficult situations. We lost team fights and items even though our laning was fine.”

Keeping things positive, the Vietnamese coach believes Kiaya shows promise, especially since the young player always performs better during actual matches compared to scrims. JackieWind also considers Levi’s experience and age an advantage for the team.

Additionally, GAM Esports regularly trains with top League of Legends Pro League (LPL) teams like JD Gaming and Top Esports, as well as teams from other major regions like G2 Esports and TSM. Due to these scrims, GAM’s tactics are gradually becoming more diverse.

“In the previous matches, our attacks and intentions were shown clearly,” coach JackieWind explained. “Against the LPL, I chose to use Sejuani because she is strong in the meta. Levi can use her quite well against LPL junglers. As for the LCK and LEC, Graves is a good choice for Levi since he can easily gain an advantage by speedily clearing creeps and putting lane pressure.”

What JackieWind thinks of LEC representative, Rogue

Miles ahead of GAM is Rogue, the team to beat in Group C with their flawless 3-0 record.

However, JackieWind doesn’t consider Rogue as the strongest team in the group since European and North American teams often have an advantage in best-of-one matches.

“TES, after losing to DRX, doesn’t seem to be the same team anymore,” he said. “They played in a bit of a hurry and let Rogue capitalize on their mistakes.”

“I will give the team a day to rest,” coach JackieWind said. “Personally, I’m a bit sorry that there are many playable champions in this meta yet GAM hasn’t had much time to practice. The next few days will be an opportunity for us to make the most of our efforts and create a turning point for the second leg.”

GAM Esports will return on the second half of the Worlds 2022 Group Stage on October 15, 12 p.m. PST | 8 p.m. GMT | October 16, 3 a.m. GMT+8.

Catch the Worlds 2022 Group Stage live on Riot Games’ official channels on Twitch and YouTube.
