Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 7) – Filipino American guard Remy Martin is taking a leap in his basketball career as he announced on Friday his intent to apply for the NBA Draft.
In a video released by his alma mater Arizona State Sun Devils in its social media page, the 6-flat guard thanked all those who supported him in his four-year stint with the Bobby Hurley-coached squad.
“I just want to let you guys know that I will be pursuing my NBA dreams,” said Martin, who will graduate with a sociology degree.
Martin also expressed his gratitude to Hurley, his family, and friends for the support in his journey as a Sun Devil.
“I’m a Sun Devil for life,” he said.
The Chatsworth, California native previously announced he will apply for the 2020 NBA Draft but withdrew to play for his senior season.
Martin averaged 14.9 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game in his four years with Arizona State. He has been named into the AP Preseason All-American Team during the last 2020-21 season, twice in the All Pacific-12 Conference (Pac-12) First Team in 2020 and 2021, All Pac-12 Second Team in 2019, and Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year in 2018.
He will join fellow Filipino American guard Jalen Green in the 2021 NBA Draft. Green played for the G League Ignite squad, a developmental team affiliated with the NBA G League to prepare future basketball stars.
The 22-year-old Martin is also one of the prospects to play for Gilas Pilipinas.
