NBA fans poke fun at Giannis Antetokounmpo for taking longer than 10 seconds to hit a free throw while LaMelo Ball hit 2 in the same time.
In the 8 years that Giannis Antetokounmpo has played in the NBA, he’s progressed as player, immensely. Everything from defensive versatility to his game on the offensive end of the floor were reinvented to help better suit the way the game is played today. The Milwaukee Bucks have revolved the entirety of their offense around Giannis, while surrounding him with talent that compliments him.
Giannis’s skillset consists of being a back-to-the-basket player while also being perhaps the greatest downhill scorer of all time, from which he can decide to dip into his bag to perform a flurry of moves. Recently, he’s been taking several turnaround fadeaways from the post, as highlighted in the two wins over the Brooklyn Nets.
Along with these fadeaways, he’s displayed an ability to score from all parts of the court, such as the mid-range and even from beyond the arc. He shot 8-20 in the two wins over Brooklyn while also showing yet another improvement in his game: his free throws.
Giannis Antetokounmpo takes much longer than LaMelo Ball to hit one free throw.
The similarities to Shaq have come and gone but one that sticks is the fact that Giannis cannot hit free throws at a respectable rate, making him a risk for being the victim of Hack-a-Shaq techniques. However, this might all change as not only has Giannis improved his free throw percentage this season, but did so while adopting a new routine at the charity stripe.
This routine consists of a bevy of dribbles when at the line, coupled with spinning the ball to match the axis of the ball with his palm. This routine of his has become notorious for taking a tad bit too long and has urged fans to call him out on 10 second violations.
Hilariously, NBA fans have also compared the time Giannis takes to hit one free throw, to the time it takes LaMelo Ball to hit 2. This comparison yielded results that showed LaMelo actually had 5 seconds to spare after hitting 2 free throws when put against the Greek Freak’s singular free throw. Ball has a very short routine at the line as he simply take 3 quick dribbles and raises up for the shot.
