Manila Chooks 3×3 not joining Lipik Challenger due to visa issues
Manila Chooks TM will no longer participate in this weekend’s FIBA 3×3 Lipik Challenger due to delays in travel requirements.
The team said that it was forced to pull out of the event slated May 21 to 22 as the visas of the four players have yet to arrive from the Croatian embassy in Jakarta.
Croatia has no embassy in the country which is why Manila sent its requirements to the nearest one which is the Indonesian capital.
Chico Lanete, Mac Tallo, Zach Huang and Dennis Santos were supposed to leave for Thursday, May 20 for Lipik which is about 120 kilometers away from the Croatian capital of Zagreb.
“There are things that we have no control of and this is one of them,” said Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 owner Ronald Mascariñas. “Since 2019, this is the first time that we had to pull out from a FIBA 3×3 tournament and the players were really looking forward to it.
“But the challenges of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic made it hard for us to obtain our delegation’s visas,” added Mascarinas.
Manila was slated to play in the qualifying draw of the Lipik Challenger, the latest stop of the FIBA 3×3 calendar.
The team spent the past few days holding a training bubble in Lucena City, Quezon before travel issues prompted them to pull out of the Challenger.
