Billy Joe Saunders will be feeling low following his humbling defeat to Canelo Alvarez but mate Tyson Fury showed he’s always got his back.
It was always going to be a tall order for Saunders to get the win but he was on the wrong end of Canelo’s class in Dallas on Saturday night.
Saunders’ corner threw in the towel after the eighth round as he suffered a nasty eye injury having been caught with a powerful counter right uppercut.
This will be a worrying time for the 31-year-old with his horror injury expected to keep him out for a ‘long, long time.’
Some haven’t been so sympathetic to Saunders in the wake of his defeat – Chris Eubank Jr was filmed laughing at him as the result was confirmed.
But Fury has sung the praises of Saunders, who he’s been mates with since they were teenagers.
Fury tweeted: “People love to hate on others willing to chase there [sic] dreams, @bjsaunders_
“Tried to be great last night! It wasn’t his night but at least he had the bottle to follow his dreams & heart.
“He will always be my bro with sunglasses we go back to 15/16, what a night to remember in #30years Dallas.”
