While the Philadelphia 76ers are currently working on eliminating the Washington Wizards in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs, the NBA draft is approaching quicker than most think.

The draft lottery is set for June 22 and the draft itself is set for July 29. While the Sixers obviously do not concern themselves with the lottery anymore, the team could always use a young player who can help them in the future.

Philadelphia has the 28th pick in the 2021 draft and in a mock draft performed by For The Win’s Bryan Kalbrosky, the Sixers are selecting Virginia sharpshooter Trey Murphy:

Sixers executive Daryl Morey likes players who shoot either at the rim or from beyond the arc and few fit that bill more than Virginia’s Trey Murphy, a 6-foot-9 sharpshooter who connected on 43.3 percent of his three-pointers last season.

Murphy is exactly the kind of floor spacer a team with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid requires, especially considering he plays well within his role and will not require a high usage rate to make a difference.

As mentioned, Murphy shot 43.3% from deep in the tough ACC conference for the Cavaliers. He made a nice adjustment after playing his first two collegiate seasons with Rice and he was not afraid of the step-up in competition.
