Footage from outside the Octagon reveals just how depraved and personal Conor McGregor’s attacks to Dustin Poirier and his wife Jolie really were.
The Irishman was forced to retire from the main event of UFC 264 with a fractured tibia and fibula, his second defeat to ‘The Diamond’ this year.
McGregor had been cordial at the UFC 257 pre-fight press conferences and weigh-ins and the humility was present throughout the week on Fight Island.
Yet things took a sinister turn when Poirier accused the former two-weight world champion of failing to deliver on a donation to his children’s charity in Louisiana.
Although Poirier relented and apologised for jumping to conclusions, McGregor took it personally and vowed to kill his opponent when they met for a third time in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena.
But as ‘The Notorious’ lay prone on the canvas in the aftermath of his gruesome injury, the insults he traded to the Poirier family were sickening as he can be heard threatening to kill them ‘in their sleep’ and made repeated gun gestures to his head.
Speaking after the event to BT Sport, Poirier admitted he was irked by the death threats and the insults to his wife, especially considering his opponent was on the floor and incapacitated.
He said: “No, that didn’t bother me; the death talk is what bothered me, all that other stuff…I know that is not true.”
“He was sitting there, on the mat, with a broken leg, doing this [mimics gun gesture to his head] telling me he is going to kill me still.
“Like, what are you doing bro? That’s disgusting man; I’ll break his other leg.”
