NLEX drubs Barangay Ginebra to bounce back from opening day loss - GMA News Online

The NLEX Road Warriors bounced back from their opening day loss after drubbing the defending champs Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 94-75, in the 46th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Sunday.

The Road Warriors exploded for 31 points in the third period against Barangay Ginebra's 20 to take a 72-55 lead heading into the final quarter. NLEX led by as much as 20, 70-50, after an Anthony Semerad triple at the 2:00 mark of the third period.

NLEX's lead was already too much for the defending champs and was able to cut only their deficit to 11 after a Scottie Thompson triple with 7:15 left in the game.

A Kevin Alas trey at the 6:35 mark ignited an NLEX run which eventually sealed the deal.

At the half, NLEX had the upper hand, 41-35, as Barangay Ginebra had a lackadaisical performance in the early parts of the game where they even went down 12-0 in the first quarter.

Alas registered 20 points in the NLEX win while his backcourt partner Kiefer Ravena had 19 points. Semerad and Don Trollano scored 11 points each.

Making his debut for Barangay Ginebra, big man Christian Standhardinger was limited to only eight markers, but had 10 boards in their loss. Japeth Aguilar posted 15 points and five rebounds while LA Tenorio chipped in 10 points. Scottie Thompson led Barangay Ginebra in rebounds with 12, on top of his 12-point performance.

The Road Warriors, now at 1-1, will be back in action on Friday when they play the San Miguel Beermen. Barangay Ginebra, meanwhile, will take on the Blackwater Bossing on the same day.

The scores:
NLEX (94) - Alas 20, Ravena 19, Semerad 11, Trollano 11, Quinahan 10, Cruz 9, Soyud 7, Miranda 5, Oftana 2, Porter 0, Mcaloney 0,
