Ernie Gawilan concludes Paralympics campaign; Bejino finishes 14th in butterfly prelims
Para swimmers Ernie Gawilan and Gary Bejino missed their chance to advance to the finals of their respective events in the Tokyo Paralympics Monday at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.
Gawilan finished 10th in the overall preliminaries of the men’s 100-meter backstroke S7 after timing 1 minute and 21.60 seconds.
He was 12.48sec behind top qualifier Pipo Carlomagno of Argentina, who broke the Paralympic record by posting 1:09.12.
This ended Gawilan’s campaign after finishing sixth in the finals of the men’s 400m freestyle S7 and ninth in the heats of the men’s 200m individual medley SM7.
Meanwhile, Bejino finished 14th place in the men’s 50m butterfly S6 preliminaries after clocking 36.14sec.
China’s Wang Jingang led the eight qualifiers in Bejino’s event with a time of 30.81sec.
