Manila Chooks TM will make its return to the FIBA 3×3 World Tour when it competes in the Montreal Masters on Sept. 4 to 5.
The team is going to field the same lineup that was supposed to take part in the Lipik Challenger last May only to back out at the last minute when their Croatian visas failed to be processed on time.
Mac Tallo, Zach Huang and Dennis Santos, who took part in the Doha Masters last March, and newcomer Mark Yee comprise the Montreal roster. Chico Lanete, also a part of Manila’s Doha campaign, will be the alternate.
“The team is hungry to redeem themselves,” said Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascarinas. “They have been ready since May but unfortunately their Croatian visas did not make it in time for the FIBA 3×3 Lipik Challenger.
“There have been a lot of challenges faced by the team brought about by the current pandemic but we are confident that frequent participation in the FIBA 3×3 pro circuit will only make the team stronger,” he added.
The team had been training the past weeks through online sessions under the tutelage of head trainer Aldin Ayo.
Manila is set to leave Wednesday, Sept. 1, a day after undergoing RT-PCR testing.
A crack field will converge in the Canadian city for the Challenger, namely No. 2-ranked Riga of Latvia, No. 4 Ub of Serbia, No. 7 Amsterdam from The Netherlands, No. 8 Antwerp of Belgium and No. 10 Edmonton from the host country.
Also taking part are American sides Princeton and Omaha, Switzerland’s Lausanne, Lithuania’s Raudondvaris, Canada’s Old Montreal and a team which will come from a Quest event.
