Four Filipino players and their teams extended their campaign following victories Sunday, Oct. 31 in the All-Japan Basketball Championship in Hokkaido, Tachikawa and Kishiwada.
Thirdy Ravena and the San-En Neophoenix posted a 90-76 win over the Koshigaya Alphas while older brother Kiefer and the Shiga Lakestars registered a 91-82 victory at the expense of the Fukuoka Rising Zephyrs.
Dwight Ramos and the Toyama Grouses overcame the Shimane Susanoo Magic, 81-77, while Aquino hardly saw action in the Shinshu Brave Warriors triumph against Ray Parks Jr. and the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, 90-80.
The Ibaraki Robots also prevailed, 86-74, opposite the Fighting Eagles Nagoya but Javi Gomez de Liano has yet to see action for his B.League club.
Kobe Paras and Niigata Albirex’s stint in the tournament also known as the Emperor’s Cup came to an end after a heartbreaking 105-102 overtime loss to the Hiroshima Dragonflies.
Their clubs will once again play Monday, Nov. 1 with Thirdy’s Neophoenix facing the Hiroshima Dragonflies and Kiefer’s Lakestars battling the winner of the match between Alvark Tokyo and Altiri Chiba.
Thirdy had 15 points, three rebounds and five assists for the Neophoenix even as Kiefer produced 12 points and nine assists in the Lakestars’ triumph.
Ramos was held to three points, three assists, one steals and two blocks but the Grouses were able to hold off the Magic to reach the first round of the tournament.
Aquino played just one minute for the Brave Warriors to beat the Diamond Dolphins.
Parks scored just two points with two assists and three steals in 24 minutes.
Paras delivered 21 points, including a tip-in to tie the score at 102-all late in the extra session.
But hopes of another five-minute period was squashed by Hiroshima when Ryo Terashima converted a buzzer-beating three off a friendly bounce to end Niigata’s stint in Japan’s domestic cup tourney.
