Yulo fails to defend floor exercise title - The Manila Times

CARLOS Yulo of the Philippines failed to defend his floor exercise title at the 50th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Saturday at the Kitakyushu General Gymnasium in Japan.

Overall, Yulo performed well in his execution with near perfect tumbling passes and mid-air turns.

However, the 21-year-old Filipino nearly fell out of balance in one of his landings while also planting his feet outside the mat, causing him a 0.300 point deduction.

The 4-foot-11 Yulo scored 6.600 points in the difficulty department and 8.266 in the execution.

Without the penalty, Yulo would have scored 14.866, which should have been enough to give him another gold in floor exercise.

But with the deduction, he settled for 14.566 points, which landed him at fifth place overall in the tournament.

Italian Nicola Bartolini bagged the gold with 14.800 points, Japanese Kazuki Minami took the silver with 14.766 points, and Finnish Emil Soravuo claimed the bronze with 14.700 points.

South Korean Ryu Sunghyun finished fourth with 14.600 points and Japanese Kaya Kazuma ranked sixth with 14.533 points followed by Kazakh Milad Karimi (14.333) and British Skinner (14.100).

However, all is not lost for Yulo because he still has a chance to win the gold in the parallel bars and vault events on Sunday at the same venue.

Adblock test (Why?)
