The Blue Devils had three players in double figures, led by senior Miela Goodchild's 18 points and junior Celeste Taylor's 16 points. Freshman Lee Volker was the third Duke player to tally double-digit points, chipping in a season high of 13. Senior Imani Lewis pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds, while Goodchild paced the team with four assists.
Duke raced out to an early 12-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. After UNC Wilmington pulled within six, the Blue Devils went on a 13-2 spurt to close out the opening period with a 25-8 lead. Goodchild provided a spark off the bench, scoring eight of Duke's season-high 25 first-quarter points. The Blue Devils limited UNC Wilmington to 18 percent shooting from the floor, while outrebounding the Seahawks 16-8.
The Blue Devils continued to push the tempo in the second frame as they added to their advantage. Volker scored five points, including a three-point play that gave Duke it's then-largest lead of the half, 44-18, with 1:32 remaining. Taylor also added four points and grabbed four boards in the second.
Duke tallied its highest first half point total of the season and held a 47-20 lead at the break. Ten different Blue Devils scored in the first half, led by Goodchild's 11 and Taylor's eight. Freshman Shayeann Day-Wilson led the way on the glass with five rebounds, while Goodchild and sophomore Vanessa de Jesus notched a pair of assists. The Blue Devils shot at a 53 percent clip in the first 20 minutes, including 7-of-15 from distance.
Taylor got going in the third, scoring eight of Duke's first 12 points to reach double-figure scoring. The trio of Goodchild, Volker and Day-Wilson combined to score the Blue Devil's last dozen of the period, with each scoring five, four and three points, respectively. At the end of the third, Duke's advantage had grown to 39.
The Blue Devils outscored the Seahawks, 16-13, in the final period to lock down the result and claim the 42-point victory.
Duke shot 45.3 percent from the field for the game and drained 11 triples, pushing its season total to 30 treys. The 30 three-pointers are the most made through three games in program history. The Blue Devils dominated the Seahawks in several categories, including rebounds (56-26), assists (21-4), second chance points (33-5), points off the bench (51-12) and blocks (11-4).
Sierra DaCosta paced UNC Wilmington (1-1) with 16 points.
