The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) leadership vowed to give fans a warm welcome should the league secure the go-signal to allow a live audience back in the stands for the 2021 Governors' Cup.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial on Tuesday said that they are set to write a letter addressed to the Inter-Agency Task Force regarding their plans to welcome back fans, which the PBA has missed for nearly two years now.
Should the league secure the nod from the government, Marcial said they will offer free tickets and other promotions to accommodate fans.
"We will seek the help from IATF if fans can now be allowed in the venue. I will ask what percentage [of the venue's capacity] would be allowed," Marcial said in Filipino on Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.
"We will also have some free tickets. We will have promos. We will welcome them [fans] back happily because they stayed with us through the pandemic."
Marcial added that they will also discuss with the IATF how the fans' seating arrangement could be implemented as well as the health and safety protocols needed to ensure virus-free games.
"I will write the letter this week and I will coordinate with the IATF when we can conduct a meeting. I might also ask Dr. [Raul] Canlas to join me in the meeting."
The PBA will formally get the ball rolling for its inaugural 3x3 tournament on November 20 and, hopefully, the regular 5-on-5 offering on the 28th.
Both contests will take place at the Ynares Center in Pasig.
