THE Philippines, through Chooks-to-Go, is set to host two top-level FIBA 3x3 tournaments this year — the FIBA 3×3 Manila Masters and the FIBA 3×3 Cebu Masters.
The Manila Masters will be held for the second time in the country from May 28 to 29. The first edition took place in 2015.
The Cebu Masters, on the other hand, will be held for the first time from October 1 to 2.
Competing in FIBA 3x3 competitions will help the Philippines collect enough points to qualify for FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) for the 2024 Paris Games.
"Since 2019, the goals of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 is to expose the Filipino basketball players to world-class competition while bringing quality 3×3 basketball to the fans," said Chooks-to-Go President Ronald Mascariñas.
The Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 league was the first professional 3x3 league in the country and was responsible for the Philippines' qualification to the 2021 FIBA 3x3 Olympic qualifiers.
"Two years before the 2024 Paris Olympics, we need to garner FIBA 3×3 points to qualify for the tournament or the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. By hosting the top-level tournaments, we get maximum points while also giving our players more experience and mileage in international 3×3," added Mascariñas.
The FIBA 3x3 World Tour this year will open in Utsunomiya on May 14 to 15. Other 3x3 Masters tournaments are also slated in France, Prague, Lausanne, Debrecen, Montreal, Chengdu, Jeddah, Hong Kong and Macau.
The season closes on December 9 to 10 in Abu Dhabi.
Only Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 players will be taking part in the FIBA 3×3 pro circuit.
