The first round of the Drive On Championship at Crown Colony Golf & Country Club saw the first ace of the 2022 LPGA Tour season. Stephanie Meadow found the bottom of the cup on the par-3 14th with a 6-iron from 168 yards.
“I had a perfect number, little 6-iron. It was windy and I striped it right at it,” said Meadow, who carded a 1-over 73 on Thursday. “Wind never touched it, just rolled right up into the hole. It had been a while since I made a hole-in-one and it’s the first of my LPGA career, in a tournament, so very nice.
“We all saw it go in, and the volunteer at the green was putting his hands up cheering and stuff.”
For the hole-in-one, CME Group will donate $20,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The 2022 season has one ace for a total of $20,000 donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“Thanks to CME [Group] for stepping up,” said Meadow, a CME Group ambassador. “20 grand is a lot of money and can help someone. Who knows who it will help, but I know it will help an important person. I am just really thankful that my great shot can benefit somebody's life.”
