Pure dominance.
National University (NU) defeated De La Salle University (DLSU), 25-15, 25-15, 25-22, in Game Two of the Finals to complete a 16-0 sweep in Season 84 and end its 65-year title drought in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women's volleyball on Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs are the first to sweep their way to the UAAP women's volleyball championship since Ateneo did it in 2015.
Alyssa Solomon led the way with 18 points on 15 attacks and three blocks for NU, which won its first title in women's volleyball since 1957.
Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player Bella Belen put up 16 points on 13 attacks and three blocks.
Finals MVP Cess Robles tallied 15 digs on top of six points, while Camilla Lamina tossed 14 excellent sets.
Jen Nierva logged 19 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions.
"We just took it one game at a time. We did not notice that the first round (sweep was over), second round (sweep was over), Finals Game One and this one," said Lady Bulldogs head coach Karl Dimaculangan.
La Salle had a good start, leading NU by four, 10-6. From there, however, the Lady Bulldogs asserted their dominance to win the set.
The Lady Spikers showed some life in the third set, taking a 20-17 lead after an ace from Matet Espina.
But the Lady Bulldogs, most of whom came from NU's girls high school volleyball team, proved to be steadier down the stretch as they unleashed an 8-2 run capped by, ironically, former NU girls player Thea Gagate of La Salle, whose service error sealed the championship for NU.
Gagate and Alleiah Malauan paced the Lady Spikers with eight and seven points, respectively.
Justine Jazareno tallied 15 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions for DLSU.
