Richard Bachmann, son of former basketball Olympian, is now the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
He’s the second official with vast Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) experience to be named as head of the government sports agency in four months.
The former manager of the now-defunct Alaska Milk in the PBA will replace Noli Eala, who once served as commissioner of Asia’s first play-for-pay league.
Eala has only been in position for four months.
Bachmann’s appointment reached the government sports agency’s office on Wednesday, Dec. 28, a day after Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed his appointment paper,
Also known as “Dickie”, Bachmann is currently the basketball commissioner in the UAAP and the PBA 3×3 chairman – positions he will relinquish as soon as he arrives from the United States.
Office of the Press Secretary OIC Cheloy Garafil also confirmed Bachmann’s appointment.
Also named to the PSC Board were Edward Hayco and Walter Torres.
Hayco stepped down as Cebu City Sports Commission Chief in February after serving for 12 years while Torres is the secretary general of the Philippine Paralympic Committee.
They will join Bong Coo as one of the commissioners, leaving only one spot left to fill the five-man Board.
Cayco thanked various stakeholders for believing in his grassroots program as Cebu’s sports czar.
Hayco took his oath at the Malacañang also on Wednesday.
Bachmann’s father, Kurt, played for the PH team during the 1960 Rome Olympics.
