Rafael Nadal’s comeback will also hit the doubles court this week at the Brisbane International presented by Evie.
The Spaniard will partner team member and former No. 3 in the Pepperstone ATP Doubles Rankings Marc Lopez, with whom he won the gold medal in men’s doubles at the Rio Olympics. The duo will take on Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson in the first round.
Nadal will play doubles for the first time since the 2022 Laver Cup, where he partnered Roger Federer in the Swiss’ final match. Marc Lopez, one of Nadal’s coaches, has not played since the 2022 Mutua Madrid Open.
The winner of the match will face fifth seeds Nikola Mektic and Hugo Nys. Mektic will be Wesley Koolhof’s full-time partner this season (Koolhof is competing in United Cup).
World No. 1 Andy Murray and 2023 Nitto ATP Finals competitor Holger Rune will also share the court. They will open against Aslan Karatsev and Roman Safiullin.
Top seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz have a bye in the first round. They will begin their season against Australian wild cards James Duckworth and Christopher O’Connell or Matteo Arnaldi and Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
New partners Lloyd Glasspool and Jean-Julien Rojer are the second seeds and reigning Australian Open champions Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler are also in the draw.
