Gorgan turn the tables to clinch top seed and hand Dragonflies first defeat - FIBA

DUBAI (UAE) - Shahrdary Gorgan rebound from a tough loss to deal Hiroshima Dragonflies their first defeat in BCL Asia 2024, 94-81, at the Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Sports Hall on June 11.

Moreover, the margin of victory clinches Gorgan the top spot in the group standings heading into the Semi-Finals. The Hiroshima Dragonflies also clinch qualification to the Semi-Finals as the second-placed team in the group.

Joseph Young mustered a herculean performance of 34 points coming off the bench, including important points down the stretch to get the team the important win and margin of victory.

The Dragonflies themselves got a great scoring game from Dwayne Evans who had 29 points, but lost some energy towards the end while trying to mount a comeback.

Turning Point: Shahrdary Gorgan were already ahead in the final minute by 11 points, but knew that they needed a bit more to clinch the top seed. Young drove hard to the basket for a tough layup to give them exactly what they needed.

Stats don't lie: The two teams headed into this game in different three-point shooting forms. Gorgan were only shooting 30 percent. Hiroshima were scorching hot, shooting 50 percent. The Dragonflies came back to earth a bit and shot 25.8 percent, while Gorgon turned around to knock down 12 threes on 44.4 percent shooting.
