It was just the second international victory of the two in 26 Beach Pro Tour events, following a triumph at the Ostrava Elite16 in 2022, and also their first podium appearance in the 2024 season. The victory came on a special occasion for Tillmann in more than one way as the defender also got to celebrate her 33rd birthday with a gold medal around her neck.
"I couldn't have asked for a better birthday," she said. "We tried to communicate as much as possible and it worked. The Swiss served and blocked really well, but I think that today we played perhaps our best match in the season and that's exciting, considering this is the last tournament before the Olympics."
Americans Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft made it to the podium for a second straight week on the Beach Pro Tour by finishing third in Vienna. The two, who took silver last week in Gstaad, topped Ágatha and Rebecca 2-0 (21-16, 22-20) in the bronze medal match.
"It's been exciting," Cannon reacted. "Megan was a left-sided blocker before we started playing together, so she had to change positions completely, and the fact that we managed to still have success against such competitive teams, it's just so fun. I love playing next to her and we're excited to see where we go."
