Jazz 24-Game Home Winning Streak Ends With Loss To Wizards - KSL Sports

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The 24-game home winning streak for the Utah Jazz came to an end on Monday night after a 125-121 loss to the Washington Wizards.

The 24-game streak at home was a franchise record. It’s their first loss at home since December 31, 2020 when they fell to the Phoenix Suns.

Donovan Mitchell had 42 points to lead all scorers. Bojan Bogdanovic added 33 points, while Joe Ingles chipped in 18 points. Rudy Gobert had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Mitchell is just the third player in Utah Jazz history to score at least 35 points in four straight games, joining Karl Malone and Adrian Dantley.

Bradley Beal scored 34 points to lead the Wizards. Russell Westbrook had a triple-double with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists.

Mitchell Catches Fire In First Quarter, Jazz Sputter In Second

It was a tale of two quarters in the first half for the Jazz. Utah started out hot as Donovan Mitchell scored 17 points, which was a career-high for most points scored in the first quarter of his career. He shot 7-of-10 from the field and 2-for-4 from the three-point line. The Jazz outscored the Wizards 42-33 in the opening quarter, but Washington answered the bell and countered with a 37-23 advantage in the second to take a 70-65 lead to the halftime break.

Mitchell managed to only score two points in the second quarter and had 19 at the break. Bojan Bogdanovic added 17 points and Joe Ingles chipped in 11. For Washington, Bradley Beal had 23 first half points, while Russell Westbrook had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go with his 7 assists.

The first half had 10 lead changes.

Jazz Collapse Late In Third, Early In Fourth, Falling To Wizards

It was a tough third quarter for the Jazz. The game went back-and-forth until late when the Wizards ended the third on a 19-8 run and took a 98-88 lead going into the fourth quarter. After a strong first quarter, Donovan Mitchell went ice cold, scoring four points, while shooting 1-of-11 from the field and 0-for-3 in the second and third quarters.

Bradley Beal led the way with 27 points, while Russell Westbrook had a triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists going into the final quarter. Washington had a 14-9 start to the fourth quarter to take a 112-95 lead but the Jazz made a run as they pulled within 11, 112-101 with 4:49 left in the game.

Joe Ingles drilled a three-pointer that cut the Wizards lead to 114-108 with 3:15 remaining in the game. The Jazz were on a 13-2 run at the time. What stopped the momentum for the Jazz was a missed layup by Mitchell that turned into a flagrant foul on Royce O’Neale, sending Daniel Gafford to the foul line. He split the free throws to extend the lead to seven.

Washington went up by nine but the Jazz kept chipping at the lead. Mitchell hit a corner three-pointer to cut the deficit to four. Westbrook then hit a big jumper to put the lead back to six with 31.5 seconds left.

After two missed free throws by Bradley Beal and the Wizards with a just a four-point lead, Mitchell went to the rack for a layup to cut the deficit to two points with 12.3 seconds remaining. Beal went back to the line and knocked down both free throws. Utah couldn’t convert on their next possession.

The Jazz dropped their record to 40-14 on the season. They will return to Vivint Arena on Tuesday, April 13 as they host the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m. MT on AT&T SportsNet.
